Luminous Beast is an innovative screen production company formed in Auckland, Aotearoa, by three of New Zealand’s most in demand screen creatives. Together we aim to create surprising, meaningful, world-class television and film for a local and international audience. 


With a focus on iconic characters, curious worlds, offbeat narratives, and fresh perspectives, the Beast is committed to telling stories that reflect our rapidly changing world.

Peter Salmon (Producer) is an award-winning director and producer working extensively in  Australia and New Zealand. A co-founder of Luminous Beast, he co-created and directed the Sky Originals series INSiDE, winner of the 2021 International Emmy for Short-Form Series. 

Peter was the set-up director on Nine Network’s hit drama Doctor Doctor and After The Verdict. His other directing credits include ABC’s Rake, Harrow for Hulu and ABC, Halifax: Retribution for the Nine Network, the CBBC/Seven Network/TVNZ co-production Mystic;  the ABC’s The Beautiful Lie, starring Sarah Snook, the award-winning Nowhere Boys, Offspring for Network Ten, and Wanted for Matchbox Pictures and Netflix, for which he won the New Zealand TV Award for Best Director.

He has recently completed the critically acclaimed, award winning mini series After The Party, starring Robyn Malcolm and Peter Mullan, co-produced by Luminous Beast and Lingo Pictures.

Shoshana McCallum Writer

Shoshana McCallum (Producer) International Emmy winner, Shoshana McCallum is a writer, actress and producer in Auckland, New Zealand. Credits include Step-Dave (for which she won the 2016 SWANZ Best TV Comedy Script) West Side, Head High, Stand Up Girl, My Life is Murder and Creamerie. Her feature film script, Daisy Chain won the 2017 SWANZ Award for Best Unproduced Feature Film.

In 2020, she co-created the critically acclaimed Emmy award-winning INSiDE with Dan Musgrove and Peter Salmon. Shoshana was nominated for both Best Comedy script (Creamerie) and Best Drama script (INSiDE) at the 2021 NZTV Awards.

She was nominated and won the Fulcrum Media’s Woman to Watch Award at New Zealand’s WIFT Awards 2022.

Shoshana is currently showrunner and Head Writer for Madam, a sexy drama-comedy series, starring Rachel Griffiths.

Dan Musgrove Writer

Dan Musgrove (Producer) Dan Musgrove is an Emmy award-winning producer, screenwriter and actor based in Auckland, NZ. One of the co-founders of Luminous Beast, Dan co-created the hugely successful SKY Originals series INSiDE in 2020. The psychological thriller went on to win the 2021 International Emmy for Short Form series. Dan served as writer and script editor on Seasons One and Two of Hulu’s dystopian comedy drama, Creamerie, starring Jay Ryan and Rachel House. The series picked up the best Drama Award at the 2022 New Zealand Television Awards. Other credits include script producing Three NZ’s critically acclaimed, half-hour comedy, Homebound 3.0, and writing for the hit one-hour drama Westside, in which he also stars. He is currently developing season 3 of Creamerie and writing upcoming musical comedy Happiness for Three.
